Retreats offer the opportunity to quiet down so you can tune into the needs of the body/mind/heart and come to a deeper understanding and presence with where you are now. You meet amazing new people and, like some who come back each year, get to see some familiar faces too. It is a great way to reinvigorate and deepen your practice and engage in activities such as art/sound/conscious movement that create a cause to celebrate!
It was deep and powerful, despite being less than 48 hours long. Denise’s clarity of instructions, with frequent reminders during all activities to notice the attitude in our minds, prompting us to see if there was attachment, aversion, judgment, etc. helped all of us to be more continuously established in mindfulness throughout the day. Doing activities like art and movement, which intimidate many people, helped people see clearly their habitual mind patterns (with Denise’s prompting) as well as giving an opportunity not to stay stuck in these patterns, which was very liberating.
I think there is definitely a place for such a "hybrid" retreat.

DZIMC Community Dharma Leader
Denise Barclay approaches teaching of yoga and the Dharma with wisdom and incredible honesty and humility. She embodies all she teaches as well as a gentle and happy spirit. She has helped me find a way to meditate for extended periods of time without pain and reminded me to listen to what my body needs. This weekend she reminded me of many teachings of the Dharma, but particularly that of impermanence.

"I believe you're significantly serving the community and possibly beyond with this wonderful fusion of basic Buddhist teaching, yoga and the creative arts. I salute you!"

It is such a beautiful, inspiring experience to be a part of. I hope you continue to know what an awesome teacher you are. Your words are so treasured and meaningful, helpful, kind, and loving. I am so glad there is someone like you out there. I get lots of comfort from knowing/remembering and feeling that. Keep sharing your spirit, teachings, love because it is definitely a VERY special gift you have. The gift of allowing others to feel safe, vulnerable, open and loved. WHAT A GIFT!!! METTA METTA METTA. I can’t wait until next year!!!!
